Shams Dubai Program

Shams Dubai is DEWA’s first smart initiative to connect solar energy to homes and buildings in Dubai.

Shams Dubai invites Dubai homeowners to install solar photovoltaic (PV) panels on their flat roof villas or factory profile roofs, generating their own electricity, and saving on monthly electricity charges. The beauty is that there is no need for expensive batteries for power storage. The villas will be “on-grid,” connected directly to the main DEWA network.

This is done through a process called “net metering” which means any excess electricity not immediately used is sent back to the grid. The surplus electricity is credited to you on your DEWA bill the following month, further reducing your electricity charges.

THE VISION

The Shams Dubai Program was created in accordance with the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime
Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. In 2015, he called for solar panels to be installed on every roof in Dubai by 2030, and to be almost completely sustainable by 2050. Last year he tweeted,

”Our goal is for 75% of Dubai’s energy needs to be met by clean power by 2050, a goal we gladly embrace. Sustainable development is essential for the prosperity of our and future generations.”

When installing solar, it’s important to make sure the solar provider is a DEWA certified, Dubai Shams approved contractor. SES Solar was one of the first certified for solar installation within the UAE. Our team of consists of engineers and solar experts working to bring clean energy to Dubai.

Your Solar Savings

Dubai’s year-round sunshine or “solar radiation” means most homeowners can expect 30-50% lower electricity bills in the summer. And many with solar energy have bills of nearly 0 in the winter months.

For commercial buildings or warehouses, depending on the size and AC consumption, can save around 50% – 90% of energy consumption— saving hundreds of thousands of dirhams per year.

One of the biggest benefits to solar energy is the environmental impact. By generating its own electricity, a solar powered home greatly reduces its carbon emissions, contributing to better air quality. One three-bedroom home can save up to 39,000 kgs of CO2 per year!
